Grades K-3
This 25-minute video teaches students an entire dance sequence to the folk-inspired Hungarian Dance No. 5 by Romantic composer Johannes Brahms. The choreography, led by dance teacher Tanya Phelps, includes elements of character dance, and and provides opportunity for students' ideas and expression.
• Through movement and dance, students connect with the elements of music such as form, tempo, pitch and dynamics.
• VSO Violinist Ann Okagaito introduces her instrument and plays Hungarian Dance No. 5, which is full of musical contrasts.
• Students work individually or collaboratively to develop their creative ideas.
